God certainly works in mysterious ways, but hey, I'm not complaining! A bus pulled up in our parking lot shortly after 10 yesterday morning (Sunday, June 7). Out stepped 8 people, all members of a family band called "Sloughgrass Family Band" (pronouced slewgrass). http://www.sloughgrass.com/ They are from Birchdale, Minnesota, and are members of Birchdale Congregational UCC. They were traveling south, and wanted to worship at a UCC church. They picked us!!!
We welcomed them warmly and invited them to play for us, which they did beautifully! Besides special music, they played a "postlude" of several songs, ending with "I'll fly away!"
Amazing, astounding, awesome.... I think I need my thesaurus! WOW!
Thanks be to God! Amen!

Don't miss BBQ night!

This Wednesday (March 11) is going to be great! Supper will feature authentic N. Carolina pulled pork barbeque, with accompanying side dishes. (if you're coming, bring a side dish or dessert) During our evening worship time, we'll be "visualizing" the story of Jesus' disciples on the Emmaus road -- yes, it's collage time! Bring any old magazines or newspapers (ads, too) with you and join us for some creative Bible study!

The Lenten season's here again

During this 40 day period of Lent, we at Bethany gather on Wednesday evenings for supper (6 PM) and an informal worship experience at 7. Our focus this year is "Re-imagining our Story: Telling the Old, Old Story in Brand New Ways." We'll be exploring the same scripture every week (Luke 24:13-35). This week, on March 4 we will "dive in" to the story and begin to see how it connects with our own stories. Come join us!

Share the Love! Coming up on Valentine's Day, we're hosting a Red Cross Blood Drive (3:30 - 7:30 pm in our parking lot) and a Spaghetti Dinner (4:00 - 7:00 PM in our Community Room). FREE DINNER to those who donate a pint of blood. See you there!
Whoever you are, wherever you are on life's journey, you're welcome here! We are a small, welcoming community of faith that enjoys "informal" worship, good food, and mutual support and encouragement. "Mission" is our life-blood. We are involved with our community ministry, MUSCL; we help at Wayside Christian Mission; we have helped with Habitat for Humanity projects and work projects at Merom Conference Center.
The folks here love to meet new people, so if you're looking for a place where you can get involved, make a difference, and been known and loved, "come home" to Bethany UCC!
